DMV permit practice tests for all 50 states

Each state DMV writes its own knowledge exam from its own driver handbook. Posted speed limits, BAC thresholds, school zone speeds, right-of-way conventions, and even the structure of the exam itself differ. PermitPrep has dedicated study material for every state. Pick yours below.

How state exams differ

Most state knowledge exams follow a similar twenty to fifty question multiple choice format with a passing threshold of around eighty percent. The differences appear in the rules they test: Utah is the only state with a 0.05 percent BAC limit for adult drivers, Texas posts the country's highest speed limit at 85 mph on State Highway 130, New York City prohibits right turn on red unless a sign explicitly permits it, and Massachusetts is famous for testing rotary etiquette. PermitPrep bakes those state-specific rules into each state's practice questions so you study what your state actually tests.
